Support for Children with Special Needs

The following projects provide direct support, advice, guidance, and information to children with special needs.

O Gam i Gam

The EYDCP recognises that all children benefit from good quality play and care provision. O Gam i Gam aims to promote and encourage access to a wide range of affordable and integrated provision that meets the needs of all children aged 0 to 16 years and their families.

The Referral Scheme enables children with specific needs to access and participate fully within a good quality registered childcare facility. Funding is offered to the childcare facility to employ an extra play worker to ensure the child's needs are met in partnership with parents wishes.

The Assisted Places Scheme enables children from families on low income and/or in receipt of certain benefits to access quality registered childcare. Parents are able to access funds to assist with the cost of the childcare fee. Limited funding is also available to cover travel costs to and from the facility.

O Gam i Gam co-ordinators are employed to manage the scheme and to offer support to the family and the childcare provider and to act as the links with other professional workers, e.g., health visitor, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, etc.

If you feel that you are in contact with a child or children that would benefit from this scheme, please contact an O Gam i Gam co-ordinator for further information and an application pack:
