Out of school clubs cater for school age children before (breakfast club) and after school and often during the school holidays. They can operate from schools, community halls, youth centres and/or community centres. Clubs provide a range of play activities in a comfortable and safe environment.
Qualified and experienced staff usually run the clubs. Children are supervised at all times and are not allowed to leave the premises until a parent or carer collects them.
Clubs that cater for children under the age of 8 years must be registered with the Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales and are inspected regularly. Such clubs might be private businesses, run as a community business and/or a charitable trust.
Clubs charge a set fee and parents sign a written agreement with the club.
