Holiday Play Schemes
Holiday play schemes provide organised play and activities for school aged children during the school holidays. Activities include sports, outdoor and indoor games, arts, crafts and drama, swimming and day trips.
There are three kinds of holiday play schemes in Neath Port Talbot:
- Holiday clubs held at sports and leisure centres. They are usually run throughout the school holidays and are open all day with children staying for lunch. A daily charge is made.
- Community play schemes are held usually for two week periods in the summer holidays in community centres, schools or village halls. They have morning and afternoon sessions and cater for children 5 - 12 years. There is usually no charge.
- Holiday play care schemes, as part of an Out of School Club, Day Nursery, or other registered daycare facility.
Play schemes must be registered if they cater for children under 8 years. They can be registered as an Open Access Scheme, where children are free to come and go as they wish or as a Care Scheme where children are kept on the premises until they are collected by a parent or named carer.
